Apply for Council Tax discounts and exemptions

If you're the only resident aged 18 or over
Your Council Tax could be reduced by 25% if you're the only resident in your home aged 18 or over. This covers your full bill, including any water and sewerage charges.

After you apply
It can take up to 6 weeks to process an application, as long as you've given us all the information we need.
If you qualify, the discount will be on your account from the date you qualify. We'll update your account as soon as the decision is made and send you an updated bill.

Other ways to reduce your bill
You may still qualify for a reduction even if you live with someone aged 18 or over. We ignore certain groups (known as disregarded persons) when counting the people living in your home and calculating your Council Tax.
