Apply for Council Tax discounts and exemptions
Find out what discounts, reductions and exemptions you may be able to claim to reduce your Council Tax bill for an occupied property.
Care-leaver discount
You could get a Council Tax discount if you were looked after by a local authority in Scotland, England or Wales.
How to qualify
You could qualify if you're between 18 and 25 years old, attended children's hearings and were looked after at home, by relatives or in local authority care.
You might qualify for an exemption or reduction even if there are other adults in the property if they are disregarded or exempt for Council Tax purposes.
To show you qualify, we'll ask you for:
- your Council Tax account reference
- your name and contact details
- details about the property you are claiming a discount for
- details about the people who live with you
- proof that you are a care leaver; the leaving care or aftercare team from the local authority that was responsible for your care should give you a letter confirming that you're a care leaver
The following discounts are available:
- 25% discount if you live with another adult who does not qualify for a discount
- 100% discount If you're the only adult in the property
