People not counted for Council Tax

We ignore certain people when counting those living in your home to calculate your Council Tax. These are known as disregarded persons.

You may be able to get a discount on your Council Tax for any of the following:

  • student nurses and youth trainees
  • hospital patients
  • care home patients
  • school leavers
  • college leavers
  • members of visiting forces
  • hostel and night shelter residents
  • spouses or dependents of non-British students who cannot work or claim benefits
  • people who get child benefit paid for them
  • carers
  • religious communities
  • apprentices
