Pay Council Tax

You can pay Council Tax by Direct Debit, online, by telephone, by bank transfer or standing order, at a post office or PayPoint, or by post.

To pay Council Tax, you must be registered for a Council Tax account. If you've recently moved to Dumfries and Galloway or changed address in the area you must tell us so we can set up or amend your Council Tax account:

You'll need your Council Tax account number. This is shown at the top of your bill. It starts with an 8 and is 10 digits long.

Pay by Direct Debit

If you pay by Direct Debit we can take your payments directly from your bank or building society account so you will not have to remember to pay.

Your Direct Debit will be set up for the current financial year, but if you apply in March it will be set up for the next financial year. We'll send you a new bill, including details of when your payments will be taken.

If you want to pay for an earlier financial year contact the Council Tax team.

You can pay every week or every 2 weeks. We'll take the payment from your bank on a Friday.

You can also pay every month. We'll take the payment on day 1, 8, 15 or 21 every month, whichever of these you prefer.
