They offer free and impartial advice and support to help you:
- make your home warmer
- reduce energy bills
- contribute to a greener, more sustainable future

They operate a dedicated centre for the south west of Scotland (Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway) based at the Energy Agency in Ayr.
Area Based Schemes – external wall insulation
Area Based Schemes are local authority-led energy efficiency projects, focussing on external wall insulation.
The Energy Agency manages the delivery of the Area Based Scheme on our behalf.
The Scottish Government provides substantial grant funding for property owners in the private sector to enable inclusion in the local authority projects. The funding covers the majority of the cost. You, however, may be asked to contribute, too.
If your property is selected for inclusion in an Area Based Scheme, our agent will write to you directly with more information.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO) – energy efficiency improvements from energy companies
ECO is a government energy-efficiency scheme in Great Britain, administered by Ofgem. It is designed to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions.
Energy companies are obliged to deliver energy efficiency measures to domestic properties. It was first introduced in 2013 and ECO-4 is the fourth version of this scheme, running until 2026.
Funding eligibility
The funding is to help:
- low income households
- householders that are vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home
Eligibility is determined by:
- the existing energy efficiency of your home
- your personal circumstances
Our involvement in ECO-4 is limited to checking you are eligible for funding. The scheme is led by installers. We do not promote or manage ECO-4.
Approved ECO-4 installers
Funding for work done under ECO-4 is only available if you use an approved installer to carry out the work. We do not associate with or endorse any installer on the approved install scheme.
