Information you must provide
To order a copy of a certificate you must give us enough information to find the original details.
We can only provide a copy of a certificate for an event that was registered in Scotland.
We can only supply certificates from 1855 onwards. Find out how to order certificates from before 1855.
Birth certificates
To find someone's birth certificate we need to know their:
- full name at birth
- date of birth
- place of birth
- mother's maiden name

Marriage or civil partnership certificates
To find someone's marriage or civil partnership certificate we need to know the:
- full names of both partners on the day of the marriage or civil partnership
- date of marriage or civil partnership
- place of marriage or civil partnership
Death certificates
To find someone's death certificate we need to know their:
- full name
- date of death
- place of death
Divorce certificates
