Food waste recycling

We provide a food waste recycling service for Annan, Dalbeattie, Dumfries, Gretna, Lockerbie and Stranraer.

How the food waste collection service works

You should have a leaflet with information explaining how to use the service and how to request more caddy bin liners.

Contact us to get a replacement information leaflet:

To reduce the risk of spillages, make sure food in a sealed caddy bin liner. Do not put loose food in your kerbside caddy.

Only use the biodegradable liners provided by Dumfries and Galloway council. You can collect liners from our customer service centres.

If you live in a house

You should have a small kitchen caddy, some biodegradable caddy bin liners and a large kerbside caddy. Put your food waste in the kitchen caddy using the caddy bin liners.

When the kitchen caddy is full, tie a knot in the caddy bin liner and put it in your large kerbside caddy. Lock the kerbside caddy to prevent spills and animals getting inside.

Put your kerbside caddy out for collection once a week on your usual collection day. Enter your address on our household waste collection schedule to check your collection day.

When you are running out of caddy bin liners, tie a liner to the handle of your kerbside caddy on collection day and our crews will leave a new roll for you.

If you live in a flat

You should have a small kitchen caddy, some biodegradable caddy bin liners and an outside communal shared food waste bin. Put your food waste in the kitchen caddy using the caddy bin liners.

When the kitchen caddy is full, tie a knot in the caddy bin liner and put it in your outside communal shared food waste bin.

You can collect liners from your local customer service centre.
