Overpayment of benefits
We may pay you too much benefit if you don't tell us about a change in your circumstances as soon as possible. You'll have to pay this money back.
Tell us if your address or other circumstances change so we can avoid any overpayment issues.
If we have overpaid you, we'll write to you to tell you:
- that you have been overpaid
- how much we have overpaid and how we calculated this
- the period when we overpaid you
- if you have to pay an amount back and how much
- how you can appeal
How to pay us back
You can pay back a benefit overpayment with a credit or debit card.
You can also:
- call 0303 333 3006 and pay by credit or debit card
- visit a customer service centre and pay by cash, card or cheque
- post a cheque made payable to Dumfries and Galloway Council, with your invoice reference number on the back of the cheque, to: Benefits, Carruthers House, English Street, Dumfries DG1 2HP
