Our Budget Consultation 2025/26 is now live
Have your say at dumgal.gov.uk/budget.
Children normally go to their catchment area primary school between age 4 years 6 months and 5 years 6 months.
If your child is 4 years old at the start of the school year they can delay and start primary school the following year.
Our schools cover areas known as catchment areas. You can apply to any school but children living in the catchment area get priority when places are allocated.
Parents must go to their catchment school to apply for a school place for their child. Contact the school to find out when you can do this.
Find your catchment area school
Take a completed application form and the identification documents listed at the bottom of the form with you.
If you want to apply for a place at at a non-catchment school you must apply at your catchment school. If you apply to a non-catchment school but do not get a place, you may not get a place at your catchment school.
Take a completed application form and the identification documents listed at the bottom of the form with you.
Some of our schools have been temporarily closed (mothballed) because of low numbers of pupils. Each of these schools has a replacement school assigned to it. You should apply for a place at the replacement school. If you want to apply for a place at a different school you should still apply at the replacement school.
You can apply for a place at the temporarily closed school but you must apply at the replacement school. After enrolment has finished each year we'll assess the number of applications to temporarily closed schools and make a decision about their status. If a school continues to be closed, we'll contact you to arrange an alternative school.
If you change your address and want to move your child to another school, you should contact the new school. The school will help you apply for the change, if a place is available.
We'll send you a letter to let you know if we cannot give your child a place at the school you applied to. This letter will explain how you can appeal our decision. You can appeal within 28 days of getting the letter.
