Register a birth

A birth can be re-registered at a later date to update some of the birth details and get an updated certificate:

• to add the natural father's details
• if the parents have married since the birth was registered, to add the date and place of marriage

If you re-register a birth, the birth records and new certificates will include this updated information.

We can only re-register births if the original birth registration was in Scotland.
